Joshua tossed the roll of paper up into the tree and watched it unfurl as it caught on a branch. As his buddies followed in suit, he knew that this harmless prank would be the talk of the school tomorrow. No, it was nothing original or creative, but it was classic and there would be no chance anyone would get hurt. It was relatively cold outside and an eerie mist had formed just as the sun had begun to set; with this, he was almost certain they wouldn't get caught. He smiled to himself as he grabbed for another roll, once again thankful that the principal was still at the school. As he moved to throw the roll over the tree, something in the corner of his eye caught his attention. When he looked, there was nothing there. "Hey, stop a second. Someone's here..." The other three stopped what they were doing, but Cody had already overthrown his roll past the tree. They watched as it went past the tree and landed at the very edge of the woods. All five of them froze to the spot, waiting for something to happen. But nothing came; no sounds, no movement. "Nevermind," Joshua said irritably as he tossed the paper roll into the tree. His phone went off, letting him know that Taylor, his girlfriend, had texted him. Not wanting her to know what was going on, he cursed to himself and pulled out his phone.
"When will u be over?" the message read. Joshua began typing in his response, 'as soon as im done w/ my homework' but he was only halfway through when something warm dripped onto his shoulder. Confused, he put his phone into his pocket and touched the black liquid; it was quite warm, sticky, and rather runny...but as it began to cool, it started to harden. "What the..." As he turned around, he practically ran into a huge, black thing. Joshua jumped and backed away, finding himself face to face with a massive black horse with glowing gold eyes, two long scrolling black horns, and an unnaturally shaped mouth that revealed two elongated fangs. The horse snapped its head up and let out a piercing screech, spraying him with more of the black substance. "What the fuck?!" Joshua screamed as the horse reared up as he backed away. His buddies heard the sound and began backing away as they yelled obscenities. "I don't know what the hell it is! Run!" The five of them abandoned what they were doing and ran for cover in their car.
The black stallion watched them run and let out an irritable snort. No, they would not have sufficed him, but the fear they'd felt had given him something to stave off the hunger for now. Smiling to himself, he trotted down the road, leaving an all to obvious trail of where he was going. He knew of a few horses and cattle he could terrorize, and possibly drain a bit of blood from. Now...if he could find a way to get there...
